A taut and sanguine red, with roasted cherry and macerated plum flavors that feature plenty of slate notes. Accents of ground black pepper and dried green herbs show on the tannic finish. Drink now.

The 2016 Merlot checks in as a blend of 86% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot. A value-priced effort that gives up attractive notes of blackberries, cherries, spice, and leafy herbs, it's medium-bodied, balanced, and easy-drinking.

The 2016 Merlot is soft, plump and fruity, all of which make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Although certainly a pleasant wine, the 2016 could use more depth.

Composed of 86% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Merlot Napa is deep garnet-purple colored with warm plums, kirsch and bay leaves on the nose plus notes of tree bark and spice box, with a soft, simple and fruity palate.
