This wine takes its name from Carmignano's celebrated Medici property, Barco Reale, of which this Estate was once a part. It's a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Canaiolo Nero and 5% Cabernet Franc. Barco Real (pronounced bar-coe ray-arl) was created in 1994 to offer a more approachable drinking experience than the Estate's more structured reds. All the fruit here hails from the Estate's organically managed vineyards - predominately the younger vines - and it's fermented with native yeasts, in tank, before being raised in large, neutral 2,500 litre French oak botti for 12 months. It's a delicious, juicy red with good depth of sweet cherry, clove and violet fruit and a vibrant, fresh, pippy close. Will work with a wide variety of foods and is a super value.
