Crous St. Martin Gigondas Les Espaliers 2016
|Region||France, Rhone, Gigondas|
|Brand||Crous St. Martin|
Lush dried berry and black cherry flavors are muted by darker tones of dried earth, bramble and thyme in this Grenache-dominant blend. It's pristinely fruity and plump, but savory and structured, too. The finish is extended by fine, persistent tannins. Enjoyable now but should develop complexity through 2028.
The 2016 Gigondas les Espaliers features scents of mocha, black cherries and stone fruit. It's full-bodied and supple yet not heavy or overdone. There's plenty of stuffing here, with a sense of freshness on the finish. It should drink well for a decade or so.
The 2016 Gigondas Crous St Martin Les Espaliers (80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre) is a rockingly good 2016 that has loads of garrigue, spice, and assorted red fruits as well as solid underlying minerality. Medium to full-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced, it's well worth seeking out and should keep for upward of a decade.
