The dominant Syrah grape gives this wine dark and violet hues with the unmistakable Blue fruit flavors of plum and blackberry. Ethereal notes of spices, herbs and mocha linger in the background while hints of black cherry and dark chocolate are woven into a mouth filling wine. It has medium to full body, but has an elegance and power that is rarely found in a wine of this price. The smooth and lingering finish has soft tannins and a velvet touch. Pair with beef and roasted meat.

The 2017 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes de Bila Haut reminds me of an impressive St Joseph (despite having lots of Grenache in the blend) with its black raspberry, white pepper, and leafy herb aromas and flavors. It's seamless, elegant, and balanced, with both acidity and richness. Put this in a blind lineup of Northern Rhônes and shock your friends.

A blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah and the rest a mix of Carignan and Mourvèdre, the tank-aged 2017 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes de Bila Haut comes from several estates, mostly in the Agly Valley. Dark cherries and subtle spice shadings appear on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate adds hints of blueberries and chocolate. The tannins are silky, gently fading away on the finish.

This bursts with black cherry and raspberry notes that are fresh and inviting, with undertones of white pepper and licorice drop that add depth to the juicy, savory-infused finish. Moderate tannins. Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. Drink now through 2020.

Sweet vanilla, fruit cake, dried cherry, raspberry sauce and some crushed violets dance in the glass of this red blend. The palate is soft and smooth, with a satiny texture and fine tannins that frame the plush, ripe red-berry fruits. Vanilla-soaked cherry and raspberry carry the close. Drink now.
