Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino 2005 1.5L
|Appellation||Brunello di Montalcino|
Wine EnthusiastThis estate in Montalcino is a favorite, thanks to its consistent production of seductive and charming wines. Here's a Brunello that shows territorial characteristics and careful workmanship with pristine aromas of spice, cherry, blackberry and leather.
Wine SpectatorDried strawberry on the nose, with citrus fruit. Full-bodied, with plenty of fruit and a silky tannin structure. Turns to vanilla bean and plum jam. Really delicious now, but needs time. Best after 2011. 2,580 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe estate's 2005 Brunello di Montalcino impresses with its exceptional balance. Everything comes together beautifully in the glass, as expressive aromatics lead to a well-structured, chiseled expression of fruit. To be sure, this is a decidedly understated Brunello from Poggio Antico, but the wine's overall balance and sense of harmony are superb. The wine spent four years in Slavonian oak, all of which it handles very well. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
